Gas prices climb going into 4th of July weekend

Gas prices climb
a penny overnight
to $3.143 a gallon,
the highest price in
seven weeks.
Gas prices are going up

This morning, San Diego's average gas price inched up another penny to a new regional average for regular unleaded of $3.14 a gallon. This is the highest price in seven weeks, but not the highest price of the year. Fuel prices peaked this year on May 6 when regular unleaded averaged $3.16 a gallon and diesel averaged $3.34 a gallon.

The highest gas price on record for San Diego is $4.63 a gallon on June 12, 2008. On this day in 2008, gasoline averaged $4.56 a gallon, and diesel cost nearly $5 a gallon. At that time oil cost $145 per 42 gallon barrel.This morning, oil was trading for half as much at $72.00 a barrel.
